My Pet Peeve Within Deaf Crowd
Subtitles
1 min 23 sec video.
I have this pet peeve within the deaf crowd...what would this be?
Do you feel the same way or is it just me?
I apologize for the dark video, I'll do better with lighting next time.

Amen! I always felt awkward chatting with person who wears dark sunglasses (cannot see their eyes), am afraid that I'd be talking to myself. Are they really looking at me or pretending to be listening to what Im saying. This cause my communication to go unflowed. Im with you!
I totally agree with you. I think it is more respectable to take sunglasses off, because eye contact is very important, deaf or hearing!
Exactly how I feel about eyes being blocked. I would feel LOST that way.
Dean
I definitely agree with you. It helps to understand what someone is talking about if you can see their eyes.
for some of us, we need to wear sunglass to help see better. For me, it is due to cataracts so sunglasses are necessary to see outside. However when indoor, i can understand what you're saying.

Agreed...even hearing people feel this way. One used to tell me, "I can't hear you with your sunglasses on."
How interesting of defining yourself as most "deafiest" of all.
I usually have no problem of having conversation(s) with anyone deaf using sunglasses. I would adapt myself to read anyone's eyebrows above sunglasses.
In reality, I would feel the same way how you respond to anyone deaf using sunglasses to mask their facial expressions and eye glazes.
I really never think of it before. Yes, that kind of stuff kinda bugs me from time to time.
Anyone deaf could go under the beach/cafe umbrella or go somewhere like tree shade or go indoor to take off their sunglasses.
The presence of mirrored sunglasses are the worst of all - remind me every seconds of fascist police officers. :)
Good topic without any heavy deaf political overtones/subject!

Never had that bothered me, but, that was an interesting perspective.
I use sunglasses often. So, I will take that into consideration next time I am conversing with people.
One thing you can do is go off track and ask a silly question to check and make sure they are paying attention to you! :)

Ride your bike much?
Hi everyone here, especially with new names too. Thanks for stopping by.
DeafKathy, I see this icon next to your screenname...you lay in the sun with no sunglasses? it's okay to look racoonie if you wore one in the sun.
Rodfet, yeah I agree it's respectable to take one off...I've done that when I remember to but sometimes the others I'm talking to don't get the clue. Oh well.
Dean, glad you're with me too. Now I know it's not just me.
Hawberk, that's true about cataracts for some.
DianRez...ha...but interesting when hearings would feel the same way.
RLM, at least I didn't use the big D when I typed "deafiest". If I had to chose between the dark and the mirrored one on someone else I'm talking to...I would pick dark one. I agree the mirrored one can be more annoying.
Tinted/lightly shaded sunglasses (able to see eyes through it) is acceptable by me to continue carrying the conversation... Dark/mirrored sunglasses is somewhat awkward to stare at during conversation.
I like getting my eyelids tan so I don't have to wear makeups, smile! 8D
Lane,
I never realized the sunglasses until you pointed it out. I will remember when we meet to take mine off. I tend to wear sunglasses alot since my lupus makes my eyes very sensitive to the light outside.
My pet peeve is facial hair. I can't read lips with all the junk on the lips. :)
